Nicholas Mikhail Smirnoff was born September 15th 1986 in Manhattan. He was the only child born to Mikhail and Larissa Smirnoff. His parents had wanted another child, but Larissa developed a severe form of endometriosis and had to have a portion of her uterus removed. The Smirnoffs considered adoption before realizing that their son was truthfully a blessing and a "miracle baby". Thus, Larissa is a very loving and devoted mother to her only child.

Standing at a height of 5 feet, 7 inches, Nicholas is a relatively small person, but don't let his small size fool you. He is quite the little firecracker and was known for being overly active and hyper as a small child. Because of his parents' strong Russian heritage, Nicholas was enrolled in classical ballet and ballroom classes, but he found that to be boring. He wanted more, wanted excitement and movement. So, he pleaded with his parents until they let him enroll in a hip hop/break dancing class. It was here that he met a good friend of his, and the two eventually joined a breaking crew. Although he has many moves, Nicholas is known for having a move in which he fakes a seizure as he travels, on his back, across the floor. Naturally, his parents are quite disturbed by it, but Nick finds it hilarious.

Along with dancing, Nick is a natural athlete and is quite intelligent. He's surprisingly bright and makes good grades in school without really trying. Also, because he is small and fast, Nick is quite skilled at basketball and was a point guard on the varsity team. While in school, he met Rachel de Rossi. Obviously, Nick had been around girls before, but there was something very different about her. Luckily, she wanted to be friends too because she thought he was so funny. They also bonded over their love of dance and of being the two shortest people in their grade. They started dating when they were both 17, and the relationship escalated into a lot more very quickly.

In 2008, Rachel and Nick decided to audition for the fourth season of"Dance Star America" in Washington, D.C. Surprisingly, they made the top 20, then the top 10, and some how, much to Nick's surprise, the two ended up in the finale. Rachel won, which was fine with Nick.

During the tour,on the very last show actually, Nick proposed to Rachel on stage. Of course, she accepted, and the two were married on October 10th 2009. They chose to have a long engagement so that the wedding wouldn't feel rushed.

Currently, he teaches dance at the Vincent Seaberg Dance Studio. Nick loves his job, even though it doesn't make the biggest amount of money. He also lives in Tarrytown with his lovely wife, and the two are just enjoying whatever life throws their way.
